It will allow you a little more freedom to test template tweaks, which you can then bring back to your main blog. Just a suggestion.Scotthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08526488090778783271noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15479871.post-1567645748077963972008-01-08T15:47:00.000-05:002008-01-08T15:47:00.000-05:00If I could snap my fingers, and have all of the co...If I could snap my fingers, and have all of the content just switched into the new version of Sand Dollar I would... but I can't.raybeckermanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11063235302436280455noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15479871.post-4149553715410228002008-01-08T15:29:00.000-05:002008-01-08T15:29:00.000-05:00That looks better. It's a bit cleaner looking than the old one.

One more thing, thanks for the blog, I really appreciate the work you put in.Hellslamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16712631558115242348noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15479871.post-69845188935163041832008-01-08T15:08:00.000-05:002008-01-08T15:08:00.000-05:00Thanks very much, hellslam. Actually this is an older version of the template, which had the main column at 66%, so I just changed that to 60% and poof... the sidebar is now wider.

Some of the reader problems with viewing from different web browsers seemed to have to do with the narrow sidebar... so hopefully widening the sidebar will help.raybeckermanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11063235302436280455noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15479871.post-71113375731295079602008-01-08T15:00:00.000-05:002008-01-08T15:00:00.000-05:00It looks like you are using an altered version of ...It looks like you are using an altered version of the Sand Dollar template. The sidebar should have it's width set to %33 by default, but yours isn't set, so the links break into the main section. If that's what you are trying to fix you can find this section of the template in your html editor:

div#sideBar{
margin:20px 0px 0px 1em;
padding:0px;
text-align:left;
}

and add:

width:33%;

before the closing bracket.

If you want to make it wider, just increase the percentage. Then decrease the width of the div#mainClm part by the same amount.Hellslamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16712631558115242348noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15479871.post-35240510298433296542008-01-08T12:01:00.000-05:002008-01-08T12:01:00.000-05:00How do I make the sidebar wider?How do I make the sidebar wider?raybeckermanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11063235302436280455noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15479871.post-21742758179600218152008-01-08T09:20:00.000-05:002008-01-08T09:20:00.000-05:00The place is due for a template update, if just to...The place is due for a template update, if just to make the sidebar more readable, and reduce the huge margins between posts.

I don't think you need to move this blog to a content management system, Ray, unless you want to begin allowing users to submit content in some fashion.

If you do want to go that route, I would suggest a more modern CMS, like Drupal.Hellslamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16712631558115242348noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15479871.post-7981968873489798812008-01-08T00:13:00.000-05:002008-01-08T00:13:00.000-05:00You should look at migrating the blog over to Scoo...You should look at migrating the blog over to Scoop software (http://scoop.kuro5hin.org). It would allow you to grow the site editorially if you wanted to do that. Jeralyn Merritt migrated TalkLeft from WordPress to Scoop and it seems to be a livelier site now. It's also the software that powers Daily Kos.Scotthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08526488090778783271noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15479871.post-88711660239543458602008-01-07T18:49:00.000-05:002008-01-07T18:49:00.000-05:00Much nicer formattingCheers,DarrellMuch nicer formatting

Cheers,

DarrellAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
