RIAA pays $107,834 in attorneys fees in Atlantic v. Andersen

We are advised that the RIAA has paid the $107,834.00 in attorneys fees it owed in Atlantic v. Andersen.

Actually, as Jon Newton of p2pnet.net points out, the actual payment was $107,951.00, which included the interest from the date of judgment through the date of payment.

Sadly, the RIAA probably paid this by signing over 36 check they received from their pre-settlement letter campaign of extortion. Nevertheless, chalk on up for the good guys.

Way to go Mr. Lybeck!!! Hopefully other defendant attorneys will follow your lead and the precedent that you set. Maybe Ray was right, we have passed the high water mark with the RIAA.

Nice to see they finally coughed up something, but I don't think it's nearly enough..what about all the aggravation she has suffered through all this? I know my nerves would be shot!

They got off light, and they know it.

It should have been more. The RIAA should consider themselves lucky for having gotten off this cheaply. In no sense at all have they compensated Defendant Anderson for all the time and worry and stress she had to put in on this case, nor fairly compensated her lawyer for the actual billing rate or the novelty of the case in this new, unexplored area of the law.

Remember, it ain't over yet. There's a small matter of Andersen v. Atlantic, her malicious prosecution case.

I do believe that the RIAA is running scared, especially in Oregon. I have a client who recieved one of their threatening letters, who just so happens to live in Oregon and if sued the case would likely get sent to one of the more friendly judges there. Of course, I pointed this nice little fact out to them, and have patiently waited for my client to recieve a summons and complaint. That was exactly three months ago today.
Kudos to Mr. Lybeck for making the RIAA think twice before filing another ridiculous lawsuit.

TCMS and RJ:

Yeah, the RIAA did get off really darn light with this judgement, but just remember it's small a small step along the way.

I'm just glad that the tide has begun to turn against these RIAA jerks!
