Just read a report in NationalJournal.com that Thomas Perrelli, a lawyer at Jenner & Block, will be appointed Associate Attorney General:
Music Industry Lawyer Tapped For DOJ PostComplete article
One of the nation's leading media and entertainment lawyers -- and a court crusader for the recording industry -- is President-elect Barack Obama's choice for associate attorney general. The announcement about the appointment of Tom Perrelli, currently managing partner of Jenner & Block's Washington, D.C. office and co-chair of the firm's entertainment and new media practice, was made Monday along with picks for several other Justice Department posts.

What's next? A supporter of the death penalty gets the job of health care boss?
:-(
And this was a total surprise, huh.
Let's see how this is spun to all the wet behind the ears college kids who showed up to vote for him.
Hey Ray, this man thought thought you were an Obama fan.
{The Common Man Speaking}
I am not a "fan" of many people.
I have never been a "fan" of Mr. Obama.
I have supported him, and have been hopeful that he will be a good president, and remain so.
If I'm going to help him do a good job I need to be there to point out to him when he makes a mistake.
Although I have no personal knowledge of him, I've seen some people on the side of responsible copyright (whom have been adversaries of his in litigation) describe him as quite reasonable. (And at least one person mentioned that it is unlikely that he'll be doing much if anything with IP in that position...) I guess we'll see. ^^;
Carlos, I agree that his job might not touch on copyright at all. And this may not have much impact on the copyright wars. All I'm saying that it's a "tea leaf" to read. Susan Crawford being on his transition team was a positive one; this guy being on the transition team was a negative one.

Indeed.
One might say that in order to create a fully informed
opinion, one should have input from
BOTH sides of the spectrum.
As pointed out by someone else above,
PE Obama has always appeared to be a
reasonable person, ans this move seems
to fit him.
It at least shows that he is willing to
hear from both sides.
We'll see how it turns out.

Ha, it's worse..Sanjay Gupta is Obama's choice for Surgeon General...a TV DOC...is Obama nuts, or is this a case of the blind leading the blind..his inexperience is really coming through in spades!
RJ
Sanjay Gupta is not a "TV doc". He is also a practicing neurosurgeon and is very familiar with public health having reported for CNN for many years.
I think it is good that Obama is picking a lot of people who have relevant real world experience instead of a bunch of politicians.
